Person confesses to sex offences targeting boys at summer camp
A person who spiked sweets with sedative and gave them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both between nine and ten.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and one adult fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained the defendant went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.
She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
