Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
